You've got the date wrong. Prohibition ended in 1933.

if you look at the water line, you'll see several decommissioned navy ships. there's also at least one ship in the upward blast spout right above the water line on the right hand side.

it's crazy to think they used to test these above ground.

When above-ground testing at the Nevada Test Range was a big deal, it was a huge tourist attraction for Las Vegas. I saw a documentary about it, and I was amazed at how crazy it got. Reporters and tourists flocked into town, and everyone tried to get the best vantage point. People were parking travel trailers in the desert and watching nuclear detonations from lawn chairs.
