Growing up the only time we had soda in the house was when the parents had friends over. They drank Vodka and Tequilla while we had a cooler filled with Shasta Cherry, Root Beer, Orange and few few cans of Cactus Cooler that we referred to as Panther Pee.

We only had soda when we ordered pizza. My dad had three favorites - Vernor’s Ginger Ale, A&W Root Beer, and Mother’s Pride Soda, which came in these one-gallon glass jugs. That was fancy drinking for us. 
 

I remember my mom taking us to the local A&W restaurant and parking in the lot with car hops serving us. That’s where she taught me about getting onions in my grilled cheese sandwiches, something that’s still a must for me today.
