Crossing the border at non official port of entry is a misdemeanor.  Being in the country without permission isn't even a crime, it's a civil violation.  Taking kids away from people does not fit the violation.

I would like to thank everyone for the Meow's.  They said I couldn't even get 5 MEOW's but now I have the most in history.  Some of you have also gotten MEOW's but mine are bigger than yours.  Some said MEOW's don't like me, they all love me.  Look at all the jobs I have given cats.  The lowest unemployment rate for cats ever.  Especially black and brown cats. There are good MEOW's, on both sides.  Mine are best.  

Soon I will build the greatest sand box ever.  A huge border sand box filled with cat shit that nobody can cross.

children are taken away from their parents all the time due to them committing  misdemeanors, violations and even less.

i know this might sound cold, but i don't think you should complain about the consequences when you break the laws of a foreign country you entered illegally.

that being said, they need to make sure the penalty fits the crime or revise the process where needed as they go along. i don't think the current process is ideal.
