Regardless is there any doubt that Trump is trying to build the credibility of his AG as being independent of the oval office? Which I don't know, might be fucking useful going forward? Even if Sessions has been in reality a pretty darn close ally to Trump. If he really hated him he would have just fired him or at least tried.  It's kind of his thing.

i'm guessing this was an opportune time to get out of dodge. he's had nothing but crap to deal with since day one. i wonder how much he's had to defend things he philosophically disagreed with.

I have wondered about this quite a lot. People have been very critical of those representing the administration for the ignorant things that they have said. In their defense, they have been put in the position of defending the indefensible and the incomprehensible on a regular basis. You can't justify some of the things that Trump has done, so you make crap up.

Because everyone else has had their opinion, why not Noam Chomsky? (I think he's been reading my monthly newsletters!)

What’s going on is a very systematic two-tiered operation. One of them is Trump, Bannon, the effort to try to make sure you capture the headlines, that you’re top of the news, one crazy thing after another just to capture people’s attention. And the assumption is ‘Well they’re gonna forget later anyway.’”

Leviev, a global tycoon known as the “king of diamonds”, was a business partner of the Russian-owned company Prevezon Holdings that was at the center of a multimillion-dollar lawsuit launched in New York. Under the leadership of US attorney Preet Bharara, who was fired by Trump in March, prosecutors pursued Prevezon for allegedly attempting to use Manhattan real estate deals to launder money stolen from the Russian treasury.

David Blaine, Copperfield, Criss Angel have made a living out of doing something very similar

This has to be bullshit.  How can people make up this crap??? In order to be successful at this, Leviev and Prevezon would have to find a major player in...real...estate.

Oh.

Meanwhile Russia may be arming the Taliban.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/07/25/asia/taliban-weapons-afghanistan/index.html

US generals first suggested they were concerned the Russian government was seeking to arm the Afghan insurgents back in April, but images from the battlefield here corroborating these claims have been hard to come by.

These two videos show sniper rifles, Kalashnikov variants and heavy machine guns that weapons experts say are stripped of any means of identifying their origin.

The videos don't provide incontrovertible proof of the trade, of which Moscow has categorically denied involvement. Yet they offer some of the first battlefield evidence of a flow of weapons that has the Afghan and American governments deeply concerned about Moscow's intentions here.
