Then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) spoke twice last year with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Justice Department officials said, encounters he did not disclose when asked about possible contacts between members of President Trump’s campaign and representatives of Moscow during Sessions’s confirmation hearing to become attorney general.

Ruh-oh.

Calls for a special prosecutor growing louder. Nothing concrete in terms of wrongdoing with the Trump/Russia connection yet (aside from Flynn, Sessions possibly lying under oath), but if I was a Trumper, I'd start to worry a little bit.

Sessions likely lied under oath and should resign..Trump will blame the media.

I'm shocked. [rolleyes]

Cez I like you but you sound like a complete idiot when you post like this.

He does lump all Trump supporters into one camp, but he's right about the conspiracy thing. Many Trump supporters think all this Russia stuff is "fake news" created by the evil MSM, and that mindset allows them to ignore the facts in front of them.

The same thing happened with Hillary's supporters regarding her multiple scandals. I think "Russia" has become the new "email servers."

They still haven't shown that anybody discussed the campaign with the Russians. There's still no evidence that Russia had any influence on the election. If there were any evidence or information to that effect it would have leaked out by now.

All of this is just noise from the Democrats. They want to distract attention and delay any progress that the President tries to make. It's really the only card in their hand. But that was expected.

Nancy Pelosi is a stammering fool and an embarrassment to California.

Sessions lying under oath about talking with the Russian ambassador is just noise? Bill Clinton got impeached for lying about getting a blowjob. What's your threshold for noise?

Here's his threshold: noise becomes significant activity when the person is a Democrat. This happens on both sides. Jay's not some outlier here. He's exactly the same as many of the Dems that are made of similar fiber in this sense.

As far as I can tell Sessions didn't lie.

Please, fill in the blanks for us.

He'll say that Sessions wasn't referring to any contact he had in his official duties. Even so, it would still be a lie a la "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" meaning that he didn't have sex with her. You know, the kind of lie good enough for impeachment before, but only considered "noise" in the present.

Sessions has a long history of recommending special prosecutors etc. where the Clinton's were concerned.

He likely lied to Congress which could carry a sentence of jail time.

Jeff Sessions (imo) is a sleaze bag who fits right in with several other sleazy Trump nominees.

Regarding the Russian connection in the Trump WH..where there's smoke there's fire and this needs to be looked into further so that we can get to the bottom of this.

Once he lied about it, the substance isn't relevant, it's the lie.

Clinton wasn't impeached because of a BJ.  He was impeached because he lied about the BJ.

Clinton wasn't impeached. He was fined for perjury and lost his license to practice law for 5 years.

On Dec.19th 1998 the House of Representatives approved two articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton, charging him with lying under oath to a federal grand jury and obstructing justice.

Clinton was basically impeached for having an affair and lying about it.

BTW..Jeff Sessions and every other Republican in the Senate voted guilty on both counts.

The accusations against Sessions are far more serious than what Clinton was impeached for.

Sessions should resign.

Quote

The trial in the United States Senate began right after the seating of the 106th Congress, in which the Republican Party began with 55 senators. A two-thirds vote (67 senators) was required to remove Clinton from office. Fifty senators voted to remove Clinton on the obstruction of justice charge and 45 voted to remove him on the perjury charge; no member of his own Democratic Party voted guilty on either charge. Clinton, like Johnson a century earlier, was acquitted on all charges.

I agree.

Even though the substance takes a back seat to the lie, it makes people wonder why he would feel the need to lie.

Talk about a mess.

On February 12, the Senate emerged from its closed deliberations and voted on the articles of impeachment. A two-thirds majority, 67 votes, would have been necessary to convict and remove the President from office. The perjury charge was defeated with 45 votes for conviction and 55 against.[23] (Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania voted "not proven",[24]which was considered by Chief Justice Rehnquist to constitute a vote of "not guilty".) The obstruction of justice charge was defeated with 50 for conviction and 50 against.[25]

In April 1999, about two months after being acquitted by the Senate, Clinton was cited by Federal District Judge Susan Webber Wright for civil contempt of court for his "willful failure" to obey her repeated orders to testify truthfully in the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit. For this citation, Clinton was assessed a $90,000 fine, and the matter was referred to the Arkansas Supreme Court to see if disciplinary action would be appropriate.[27]

On the day before leaving office in January 2001, President Clinton agreed to a five-year suspension of his Arkansas law license as part of an agreement with the independent counsel[clarification needed] to end the investigation.

So, yeah, he wasn't impeached.
