Maybe you are late to the party but China launched an aircraft carrier last month and have been building up their military for quite a while, including building islands to choke off the shipping routes. This all was put in place during Obama's term. So it's not in reaction to Trump being elected, an island chain and aircraft carrier don't appear overnight.

It may not have been the sole reason for their buildup, but it seems to be becoming an excuse to use it. Trump has to realize that his off-the-cuff remarks carry a much different meaning now that he has been sworn in. Threats trigger action, and this ain't Wall Street, where all the repercussions are on paper.

Interesting that Mike Pence doesn't seem to be part of the inner circle. Hopefully Trump will alienate Pence to the point that the 25th amendment becomes an attractive option.
