I don't want him to fail at this. I just don't believe that he should be encouraging people to take something that hasn't been proven to be effective.

there have been small studies that show his cure to be effective. When the other option is death, makes sense to try it. Malaria drugs are widely distributed in third world countries and  mass numbers of people are not dying from the side effects. The drug is FDA approved and dishonest for dems to run around and act like he is promoting a lethal drug. Viagra kills more people

It’s either take something that shows promise now or do nothing at all for another year or two. If your doctor doesn’t believe it will be effective then they should not prescribe it.  I’m sure they may develop a medication down the road that is much more effective than the malaria stuff but we can’t afford to wait that long.

Are doctors currently prescribing this medication for the Coronavirus?

No but at least he’s trying to be positive and hopeful. Listening to the medical experts is depressing. Then again doctors are routinely giving people bad news during the course of their profession. The country needs some glimmer hope at a time like this. I understand Trump giving false hope to people can be bad too.

And there it is....why the dumbass has been pushing hydroxychloroquine.

It's not just in the Daily Beast though.  He can deny it with two words.  Fake News.

Well yes, that was Trump's strategy from the beginning and it's worked wonders for him.

But the Daily Beast is a far-left biased source. In this case he'd be somewhat justified making that comment.

They just made 30 million doses or something.  Grifting off people dying is right up his alley. Oh that's right, I am in the "Trumped" thread and I am bitching about Trump, sorry.

Try using Guinness when cooking corned beef instead of water.

Calm down. I hate Trump too.

I'm just trying to be as unbiased as possible. If we're going to discredit all the BS far-right sources that get posted here, then we should also discredit the ones on the opposite end.

You are 100% correct sensei.  I should do better.

The original source was the nytimes. Not wise to write off something just because it's "the dailybeast." You gonna wait till fox news reports it before you believe it?

Yes. I, tdawg87 am waiting for it to be reported on a right wing trash source to report this because I am a conservative.

Out of curiosity, which news source do you believe to be non-partisan, and even if the dailybeast is liberal bias, why would they make this up and possibly get sued?

They aren't getting sued.

I think Politico and The Hill are good sources. I also like PBR.

As for major news sites, CNN is the best I can think of but they're also liberal biased so everything has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Does he have a major stake or is this just part of some mutual fund? I remember when it wa learned that Michael Moore had a stake in Halliburton many were quick to defend him saying that “rich people have people who invest on their behalf and they’re seldom aware of what specific stocks they own.”

anyway I hope it doesn’t work and people die to own the magas

"Small studies" are not proper vetting to release a drug for off-label use. There is also the danger of creating a rush for the drug, which is life sustaining for some people who currently use it.

As far as the lethality of the drug, what I have been able to find since looking into it suggests that it takes a considerable amount to be lethal. You won't take one extra dose by mistake and die.

I think some are and they are doing so in Italy

https://www.mdmag.com/medical-news/limited-supply-chloroquine-hydroxychloroquine-covid-19-use

Francesca Romana Spinelli, MD, and a team of Italy-based investigators looked at previous studies done on the drugs to learn if they were a viable worldwide option.

Because of their in-vitro effect and early clinical trial results, chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine had been proposed for patients with COVID-19-related pneumonia. The drugs were also included in the Chinese guidelines for the management of the virus.

Research by Manli Wang, MD, and investigators showed that at low micromolar concentration, chloroquine potently blocked viral replication of COVID-19 in-vitro. The drug was effective in patients who received a 500 mg/daily dose.

Hydroxychloroquine also showed an anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) effect after it decreased the viral replication in a time and concentration-dependent way.

Both drugs prevented the viral replication at an entry stage.

More than 100 patients have been treated with chloroquine and showed positive results, and a recent study showed that after 6 days, hydroxychloroquine induced a negativity of viral RNA in nasopharyngeal sample.
