A national shutdown would mean non-essential businesses close so supermarkets, drug stores, walmart, target and so on will still be open.  It's not the end of the world and as discussed it's an attempt to flatten the curve because any hospital can only accommodate so many people who need medical care.  I'm guessing all of us at one time or another have been guilty of going to work when we were a little under the weather.  Right now though it's a different story and we've already seen cases of "self quarantine" where people couldn't be bothered to follow that, they went out, found out they were positive and had put others at risk.  People can't act responsibly or stay home when they've been exposed or are flat outn sick so that's when the government steps in to prevent the situation from getting a lot worse.

My wife works for a local school district. They have officially delayed their return from their spring break by a week until 3/23, but she received an email that states the following today:

"CDC stated on Friday, that they do not see short time school closures being effective in fighting COVID-19.  They indicated we may see closures of 8 to 20 weeks."

I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that can live without a paycheck for 8 to 20 weeks.

I'm sure you and TBA are very disappointed.

Any intersection of what the shitbird says and the actual truth is strictly coincidental.

The white house says he tested negative. I have no idea what the truth is.

From the same email:

TEA Commissioner, Mike Morath, advised yesterday that State and Federal Funds will continue to flow to districts as long as we continue to provide educational opportunities to our students during the closure.

With respect to the commissioner’s statement, we expect to be able to continue payrolls as normal. This means that you must remain available. . .Monday through Friday, during regular working hours, beginning tomorrow.

TEA and school districts continue to refer to this as a school closure where we will provide educational opportunities to all students.  The media has irresponsibly referred to it as Extended Spring Break.

this is a perfect opportunity for schools to fix their dilapidated conditions, by having the teachers spruce up while they have no students.  Or is it impossible without billions of dollars of taxpayer money?

(This actually goes for any business that is paying their employees to stay home.  Mainly those that deal with the public, and really couldn't close down in the past)

We were down to one roll. Then my wife mentioned to someone she works with (a teacher) that we couldn't find any at the store, and the teacher hooked is up with a case of 10 rolls. So we'll be good for the next few weeks.

Newsom is asking bars and pubs to close, and restaurants to enact certain policies to ensure people don't come into contact with one another.
