I also love how evangelicals still see Trump as their champion of Christian values.

I don’t think you really know any true evangelicals. He’s more of a lesser of two evils in a fight with the filth from the left.

Dude, like 95% of people I know are evangelicals. And about 75% of them voted for Trump.

About 50% of them voted for Trump as the lesser of two evils. The other 50% are full-scale MAGA members.

Are the cult like followers of the Democrat party any different? You have abandoned your faith and morals to follow the Democrat party. Not all trumpers are Christians but most piss in the correct restroom. You cal trumpets a cult yet you a father to a baby girl are ok with men taking a piss right beside her. Now that’s cult level stupidity

There are some Democratic "cult" members who think the Democrats can do no wrong and support them wholeheartedly. But there's nothing like the MAGA movement. It's one-of-a-kind with its legion of folks who show up to f'ing MAGA pep rallies and fly gigantic flags.

Like the 50% of my evangelical Trump voting friends who vote for him as the lesser of two evils, I too support the Democratic party as the lesser of two evils. There's nothing in the GOP platform that resonates with me, either in my faith or my politics. I think abortion is a very sad reality, but I'm not about telling a woman what she can and can't do with her own body.

Everything else—guns, anti-immigration, nationalism, fear-mongering around things like CRT, denying science, downplaying COVID and discouraging the vaccine, denying climate change, denying systemic racism, limiting voting rights, the list goes on—is so far from Jesus' gospel that it astounds me that so many evangelicals accept the GOP platform as gospel. There's a case to be made for small government, but that's been a false flag for Republicans for decades. Neither party wants to decrease spending or the size of the government.

Democrats suck, Republicans suck. It just so happens that the Republicans have sucked more since 2015.

Abortion has fuck all to do with controlling women's bodies. Do you understand what's even happening during an abortion?

In 2011 for example, over 100k abortions were performed at the second trimester or later. At that point the doctor is essentially reaching up in the woman and ripping the baby out pieces at a time. One hundred thousand. That's 25% of the number of homicides that occur in the entire world in a given year.

But sure, the Democrats are more aligned with your faith.

I’ll agree the republican platform isn’t out of proverbs. However, class/race warfare and climate change are all means to the end which is socialism. I know you like ole Karl but he was about as filthy and worthless as they come. He nor his family would deny his affinity for the satan.

I don't support abortions past the first trimester. Most people don't. Still, there are circumstances that you and I will never understand as people who will never be pregnant (in before "birthing person" joke).

Abortion is one of those topics that nobody is going to convince anyone of anything on. I understand both sides of the issue. I happen to believe that progressive policies like encouraging sex education, providing easy access to birth control, and providing financial assistance for people in poverty will reduce abortions more than just making it illegal.

I've posted this video before. It's a good watch. You probably won't watch it, but whatever.

On this specific point, I believe that the vast majority of pro-life folks have no conscious interest in controlling women's bodies. Just like the people in support of vaccine mandates don't want to control people's bodies.

How about a combination of education/assitance etc. AND outlawing it? Why does it have to be an either or?

Outlawing the practice will reduce the occurrence on its own, that's just an objective fact. I'm sure that what you prescribe would also curb the number of occurrences. I'd bet money that the two of them together would reduce the number more than either on its own.

I did, and I say the same. There's a ton of stuff in your video, but they same the same thing i'm saying in part. Overturning Roe will reduce abortion in some capacity. So will providing easier healthcare access etc.

I'm saying you do both.

Cool. According to the Supreme Court, abortion is a constitutional right. We'll see if the Trump squad reverses course with this draconian "heartbeat" bill in Texas.

“Draconian” is ripping babies out of wombs piece by piece with pliers. Watch that video you sick fuck.

I agree. The vast majority of abortions don't happen this way. The fact that any happen this way is very, very sad. But they're extremely rare.

Getting back to the topic at hand ...

Quote

I'm a Family Physician in NYC who has offered COVID vaccination (all 3 vaccines available) in my office since late April.  Approximately 10% of my practice remains unvaccinated and I have discussions with these individuals each day.  My observations differ from the data Ms. Tufekci present in her opinion piece. First and foremost, the era of "vaccine hesitancy" is over: patients who have had doubts, questions or concerns have had those issues resolved and most have chosen to vaccinate.  There remain a steadfast group of patients who, when asked why they have not gotten the vaccine, provide one of five answers: 1--it's too new, I don't trust it, I'm concerned about side effects; 2--I had COVID, so I have "natural immunity"; 3--my immune system is robust, I haven't gotten COVID, so I don't need it; 4--I don't trust the government/pharma; 5--I read the following in some dark corner of the internet, so don't even try to convince me.  An open, non-judgmental discussion, with scientific data, convince about 1/4 to 1/3 of the above patients.  But, the remainder abide by their steadfast, almost delusional beliefs, a certain "machismo" that they will escape the virus without vaccination.  In the past four weeks, I'm seeing a steady flow of patients seeking the one-shot J&J vaccine because of workplace mandates.  They seem almost relieved.  Mandates work.  They will bring these steadfast resisters into the fold of the vaccinated.  They need to be expanded and enforced.
