Would you resign Vargas after this year?

I dont see this team making the playoffs for another 3-4 years, assuming they draft properly.  So no, I wouldnt resign Vargas, trade him for prospects or get a draft pick for him and rebuild.

Today, I'm of a mind to limit the turnover with our personal  going forward at least one more season.

 

Maybe having a consistent roster would prevent our team from playing like it's Spring Training the first month of the season for a change.

Let's wait to see some more of the season play out before we throw out the long-term welcome mat.  Yes, he's been very good in May.  That's only one month though.  If he can remain at least decent for the rest of the year, then as Bruce pointed out we have a few intangibles working in our favor.

I'd wait to see how the market plays out, if we can get him for 3 years I'd do it but I wouldn't want to give him 5 years.

Last years free agency class, only 1 pitcher received 6 years.  Greinke (6/$147).  Only one pitcher received 5 years, Sanchez (5/$80).  And only one pitcher received 4 years, Edwin Jackson (4/$52).  

 

Of the remaining pitchers, those that received over $10 million a year average.  Lohse 3/$33, Peavy 2/$29, Kuroda 1/$15, Dempster 2/$26, Haren 1/$13.  

 

Rivera 1/$10 and Soriano 2/$28 also received over $10, but they are closers.

This list inspires a lot of "meh". Some of the best pitchers on this list have options for '14 that will surely be exercised.

 

And this is why re-signing Vargas is the smart play.

I like Vargas, let's see how he does against good teams.

I hear Texas is pretty good. He gave up 3 ER in 7 IP against them.

 

He shut out Baltimore on 3 hits. They're pretty decent.

3/36 or 4/40 max. If he leaves, save the money. I'm tired of the Angels overpaying for players over 30 years old. It has to stop somewhere.
