How is that not tampering. If you're the Angels you have to extend him now, you can't let him hit free agency because in all likelihood he isn't staying in Anaheim.

However, I've said it before and I'll say it again - if we don't sign Trout to an extension, and don't trade him, and he walks before we do anything with the team, everyone in upper management should be fired immediately.

Let's say it's the 2020 season and the Angels are on their way to best record in baseball.  Trout says he won't sign an extension.  Do you trade him with a shot at the WS?
