Am I the only one that’s kind of relieved that Richards is gone ?

Recommended Posts

I am a big fan of the guy, and I definitley wish him well.  But it occurred to me while I was reading that Skaggs article in the LA Times today thats it’s kind of a relief that I don’t have to try to convince myself that he’s finally going to make through a season and anchor the Angels rotation.  I would have been fine with them keeping him around but I’m glad that he’s moved on and that the Angels have as well.

I think that in Garrett Richards case, change is best for everyone.

I don't know. I think he was more unlucky than injury-prone. I wish the Angels had kept him. He's still young and I think he's going to have an 18-win season with someone.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he'll never win 18 games.

He'll be 32 during the 2020 season. How many pitchers win 18 games for the first time at age 33+ ?

It has actually happened quite a bit, but a lot of the occurrences have extenuating circumstances (e.g., occurred during wartime when competition was weaker, occurred pre-1950 when some "minor leagues" were seen as just as competitive as the majors and teams held onto their players longer, someone switching to primarily being a knuckleball pitcher, etc.).  That said, it happened as recently as 2017 with Jason Vargas.  Scroll through the list below.  One name in particular might jump out at you...

I was always a fan and defender, but I hope he fails after hearing that he turned down a close offer from the Angels. Dude owes his life to this team.

This is really insensitive. You realize he might never be able to pitch again and every single dollar counts?

He has to do what's best for his future, and that was taking the highest offer possible.
