The Angels need to get out from underneath the disaster as soon as they possibly can. Taking a disaster contract like Hayward that is two extra years just extends the pain.

The team needs to do what's right and DFA him/Ichiro him after the STL series this season.

Which does nothing to get them out of the contract.  Their best bet is to hope he retires at the end of the season.

Well I'm not sure the guy is going to walk away from the money...it's obviously their best bet if he does.

Just getting him off the 40 man roster is a huge win

Just consider the $59 million remaining after 2019 as a sunk cost, have Pujols retire and pay him that + personal services salary over his personal services contract period.

Doesn't do anything about the AAV against tax threshold, but it finally frees up 1B for a better player and gives Arte actual salary relief for 2020-2021.

I understand why St. Louis doesn't sign other teams’ big splash FAs.  They nailed it on the not resigning Pujols decision.

Focus on the best of your own in house FAs, who you know like the back of your own hands.

Hurry up and sign somewhere, anywhere, Machado and Harper.  Sooner you do that, the sooner Trout can then be extended!

In today's MLB economics -- any MLB team would trade for Pujols?  Really?

I doubt it

Even a Dodgers deal like the one with Cincinnati where the Dodgers did a total salary dump of Puig, Kemp and Wood ( a very solid LHP rotation guy and the best player the Reds got) for HOMER BAILEY - a guy with a $12.7 million contract for 2019 that the Dodgers were going to immediately release for some other team (maybe our Halos - we need pitching help) will. pick up for the MLB minimum and Bailey will play for his new 2019 tram while most of his contract is paid for by the Dodgers.

Way back when Bowie Kuhn (then Commissioner -- anyone remember back that far) vetoed some deal Charlie O' Finley made -- well -- this Dodgers - Reds deal is far worse than whatever deal was vetoed way back when.

Trade Pujols ?  Sure. But I doubt any team would want Mr, GIDP on their roster and probably would not want to pay the MLB minimum of $450,000 or whatever it is these days.
