Mike Scioscia steps down as Angels manager

Arte Moreno had a lot more to do with that than Mike Scioscia.  The stars aligned in 2002, but without Arte taking over and spending money, the organization may not have boosted their status as much as they did.  May not.  Someone else could've done it, too, but I certainly credit Arte Moreno with taking the organization to a higher level more than I do Mike Scioscia. Much more.  Of course, Arte has also dragged them down a bit at time.

I agree with giving Arte and his injection of investment dollars in the club/ players plus the Los Angeles Angels name change marketing decision deserve credit for making the Halos a big market presence in MLB -- but Mike Scioscia was the right S. California based manager to make that happen........the Dodgers ownership at the time made one of their many mistakes in letting him get away -- the pre-Arte ownership was sharp enough to scoop him up.

So I agree with ScottT's comment -- Arte/ Mike S. were a good mix for a long time -- but now the party's over -- it lingered on a bit long IMO.

Hope Eppler is next. This isn't on Mike. His GM's haven't done him any favors. Here's hoping next year will be a better year, they need a bunch of new players to right this sinking ship.

Why should Eppler be next?  He's dragged this team's minor league system from 30th to near top 10 in three seasons not to mention nabbing the most talented international free agent to emerge on the market in decades.  Not sure what you expected from him...the guy is cleaning up near a decades worth of front office messes.

Cool. He can be in charge of the minor league system then. Let someone else control the big league club.

Hope you just give up being a fan and move on to something you can understand like competitive tiddly winks.

Anyone believe that this was his decision?

Scary thought.  I wouldn't rule it out, though. Arte has proven to be a bit nutty.

Absolutely not. If it was his decision, he wouldn't have side stepped those questions and would have said "this was my decision." The team obviously told him they wanted to go in a different direction.
