Isn't the burden of proof on the accuser?  Why should they get the photo op the want?

This isn't a criminal trial.  There is no "Proof beyond a reasonable doubt" element here.  It's up to Kavanaugh to get his 50 votes.

As for the Lawyer.  This is a Senate confirmation hearing, all these dudes are lawyers themselves.  Shouldn't they do their job?  Why bring in an unelected person to do this important official government business?

Because it's their right to do so.

Well that invokes a ton of confidence as to the validity of her claims. And he makes a living with his words?

I get why they don't want to speak in a senatorial hearing. However moral issues aside, this tactic of demanding a FBI investigation is killing whatever meaning their coming forward really has. The optics on this requirement is terrible.

Probably because she has more experience in sexual assault cases than the crusty old white dudes that would be questioning her.

"Without an FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations that have been made against him, Kavanaugh risks serving as an illegitimate justice. He might be asked to recuse himself in cases involving, among other issues, violence against women, and his decisions in such areas would be fraught with controversy. His presence could undermine the faith people have in the highest court in the land, which has the final say over disputes involving the meaning of our laws and Constitution.

The Senate has the constitutional power of advice and consent, but my experience has shown that whenever there was a serious dispute about a judicial nominee’s background, the Senate has first called upon the FBI to investigate so that senators have a nonpartisan foundation to guide their inquiry. This shouldn’t be too much to ask for such an important lifetime appointment."

Stupid. He has never been convicted of anything.
