Granted, not all XBH are created equal, but I always thought it was funny when folks would say Thaiss lacks the power to be first baseman. 

Clearly, he's driving the ball, and has the necessary plate discipline to reach base even when he isn't hitting the ball hard. That and his newer, more upright stance that he unveiled in Spring Training is more conducive to deeply driven balls. Plus the amount of bulk he's added since signing is a reflection of his dedication to developing into what the Angels need him to be.

It's a bit unfair that his pathway to everyday at bats is blocked by Albert, but Thaiss looks to me like he's going to be a legitimate starting 1B in the major leagues. The fact that the Angels can only offer him part time work is a shame.

an upright stance is key to getting your balls deeply driven.

Give him part time at bats.  If he hits than reduce Albert's.  But let him prove he can hit major league pitching.
