The closest substitute would be reddit, but it isn't nearly as prolific, and I'm not a fan of the comment tree style.

Likewise. I prefer discussion and thoughts longer than 140-280 characters, and not always based on memes (although memes are good when mixed with words and things).

People on Twitter just respond with .Gifs too. The discussion is lacking for sure.

Yes. 

One of the first places I went every morning since 2001 until they stopped it.

I have a few (real) friends I've met from that board. 

I'm grateful for it existing.
