9th Inning proposed rule change

As per Rich Eisen:

There's an idea being floated in MLB of a manager being allowed to bat whoever he wants when trailing in the 9th. MLB exec: "No other sport has the best players sitting on the bench in the final minutes of a game. Imagine LeBron, Brady, Renaldo watching from the sidelines" twitter.com/RichEisenSh…

One #MLB executive told @richeisen about an idea to improve excitement in the game by allowing managers to put anyone up to bat in the 9th inning if trailing. Good idea or crazy? pic.twitter.com/IgM6Zro

Terrible idea!

Even with the best player on the planet on our team and a guy in Ohtani who could be huge as a 9th inning ringer, this would be the dumbest change ever.   I get the need to evolve and all that, I understand they want to attract younger fans, but this short of shit just cheapens everything that happened the first 8 innings.

Never thought I'd see the day when I missed Selig..  but this new guy is awful.

Let's make it more exciting and require the pitchers throw underhand if they are leading in the 9th.  Or maybe that is too extreme, and the team should start with a runner on base dependent on how many runs they are down?  first base, if only down one.  second base, if only down two.  third base, if only down three.  More than that, they get automatic runs!

See I can even be a baseball commissioner.

I mean, if THAT'S the proposal, then why not let teams likewise utilize their best pitchers in the 9th inning, regardless of whether they've already pitched in the game or not?

Then you could see someone like Kenley Jansen come in, pitch the 7th inning, get some key outs, rest in the 8th, then come back out in the 9th??

This idea will never pass.
