Jose Miguel Fernandez cut loose by Dodgers

If you're looking for a buy low candidate that would very likely be a quality 2B for cheap, he might be your guy. 

29, decent defensively, great contact ability, good eye at the plate and 15+ HR power.

Also can play a solid 1B and 3B, all of which we need. Really seems like the perfect invite to big league camp.

Not certain why the Dodgers cut him loose.

You beat me to punch, Scotty. Yeah I agree that he could be a solid buylow guys for us, I don't see the powers but he has an really great eye of the strike zone. Only 33 strikeouts compared to 24 walks last year In Double A.

Yeah seems too good to be true. You'd think they would have been able to trade him for something during the 40-man roster squeeze a couple days ago at the very least.

He is talking about Jose Fernandez who passed away last year in the boating accident.

I'm guessing a PED issue that is known by the Dodgers and they figure he was headed for suspension. 

Either that or Puig was going to file a #metoo.

a few things that could have been it are:

1. Dodgers felt like that they didn't have room for him or w/ Tuner,Seager, Forsthye...

2. arguments going on between team mates or player- coaches. He could just have been angry for not being called up last year.

3. coming into last year he only had 37 career hrs, than hits 16 could be PED or a power spike.

Let's hope it was simply a case that the Dodgers didn't feel they had room for him.  Then again, he wouldn't be the first Cuban middle infielder the Dodgers missed on (Alex Guerrero).  Then again, he did just hit 35 bombs in Japan, and there was the argument the Dodgers never gave him a fair shake, so that could be the case with Fernandez.

how does that work for a guy who's released?  Has to serve suspension upon being re-signed?

MLB doesn't hesitate to mention players that have popped positive, especially minor leaguers.  If it were a steroid issue, you'd think that would've become clear already.
