I think Josh Paul is more likely to be the next Angels manager than Brad Ausmus.

I think people jumping on the Ausmus bandwagon are doing so simply "because he was a manager." In 2017, that doesn't count for much, evident by the guys who so far this winter have been hired (instead of Ausmus).

Escobar as pitching coach?

Ausmus is a pretty good 'bench' for manager in waiting.

Another guy - once, apparently on the informal, un-listed, un-charted 'depth chart' for manager-in-waiting -- Gary DiSarcina -- was a bench coach for the Boston Red Sox last season -- DiSar has bounced back and forth between the Angels and Red Sox his entire professional baseball career (including his playing days) -- that string may have come to an end when the Red Sox fired John Farrell (after a pretty successful season and managerial run - heck  - his team lost in the 2017 playoffs -- Angels would consider that a very successful season) and hired former infielder Cora -- first thing Cora did was fire Farrell's hold over 'bench coach' - Gary DiSarcina.

And, after all the back and forth with the latest Halos stint for DiSar being, in part, his absolute disaster of a performance as third base coach (what  - two years of that?) where the Angels - in the new era of MLB rules that seriously favor base-runners - certainly over catchers --- had more players thrown out at the plate during that DiSar reign as 3B coach than, I'm almost certain, any other MLB team."

Other candidates-in-waiting - Ron Roenecke (spelled wrong), Bud Black etc. have left for other managerial jobs. Roenecke left and came back at least once...I think

Oh well.

My choices for Halos -- guys like Ausumus, Matheny (if availalable), Biggio, etc. (and, of course, Bud Black - my first choice for manager successor but that was some ten years ago).
