If any of the other five teams are signing him, then why hasn’t a deal been announced?

I posted that in response to a post saying that he is signing with the Angels.

I'm guessing he hasn't decided anything yet and is waiting for the market to flush itself out.

I still think, based on our current commitments, we cannot fit him under the luxury tax level, unless we start trading other players, such as Cron, etc.

The Padres and Marlins each made a huge acquisition this week, though not the kind we typically cover here on MLBTR.  Yesterday, FanGraphs stalwart Dave Cameron announced he will be joining the Padres to help build out their Research and Development department.  And this morning, former MLBTR contributor Bradley Woodrum announced he’s joining the Marlins analytics team.  Cameron and Woodrum were among the best sabermetric analysts operating in the public sphere, and we’ll sorely miss reading their work.

very interesting

I'm very curious to see the team the Padres field in about 3-4 years.  They have quietly amassed a ton of talent and have a top 3 farm system.  I can understand why they want Hosmer - they are trying to add a few veterans who can combine with all the youth that is about to come up.

day 1 in miami:

Woodrum: Hi Mr. Jeter. My thorough analysis says that it's in the best interests of this team to keep talented players like Stanton and Gordon.

Jeter: Hit the bricks. loser. You're fired.

No biggie, the money they saved on Cron went to Richards. I'm ok with that.

I play Atari with a dude whose sister is the girlfriend of Darvish's second cousin and he says the Angels are signing him.

This dude also managed 10 teams and wrote for a number of national blogs about baseball and pet grooming.  Dude is connected.....that is all I am able to say......

I always think back to that Spaceballs scene with Dark Helmut and Lone Star.

"I am your father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.           So what does that make us?
Absolutely nothing."

I think Darvish would be great - for the right cost. If Eppler pulls off a miracle and gets him cheap? Great! We will have one of the best rotations in modern history (assuming health, and some of our potential comes together).

You simply CANNOT be serious, making a statement like this.

Sorry, I think I meant more like...best next year, one of the best in the last few years - assuming a few good performances (something like rich and ohtani getting era below 3, darvish in the low 3's, and whoever else in mid 3's). Though, there have been some ridiculous rotations over in the NL.

Now the #Angels have agreements with JC Ramirez ($1.9M) and Jose Alvarez ($1.05M), per source.

If Alvarez, Bedrock, and JC accept what is predicted, then the Halos will have settled for virtually the same total as a group as was predicted ($28.5 million).
