I'm sure there are some guitar people on this board....if only because I've seen pictures of some of you clowns with long hair...

Should we start a thread...or open a new Club Forum?

I picked up the guitar about a year ago, wife gave me a nice Taylor acoustic and called my bluff about wanting to learn to play...so I had to learn.

Been thinking about adding an electric guitar to my growing collection (amazing how quickly you need to add more guitars because....because). One of the kids left an old Fender Strat downstairs so I was going to start messing with it.

Need a cheap amp...any suggestions for a low cost practice amp? Want to keep it around $100. Staying away from Craig's list...too many bugs (I'll be damned if we haven't picked up 2 items in the last year that had friggen cockroaches).

Was thinking about the Blackstar Fly 3 Mini...but reality is I have no idea what to look for when it comes to electric guitar, amps, etc.

I have a gibson les paul gothic, love it. haven't played in years though. have a jackson sitting around somewhere too, but the gibson was always my goto. 

for an amp i have a marshal 4x12 mini stack, it's great. about 4 feet tall. 

and max/msp with custom programmed controllers i wrote myself for computer music composition.

@RallyMo combination. I take lessons at the local music shop as well as self study via books and youtube. I like having an instructor who can watch what I'm doing and make adjustments. Online you are trying to interpret what you see and you don't have someone who can point out things like you need to roll your wrist forward, or you should be playing legato, etc. I think I also might have gotten frustrated with things like barred chords. Instructor wouldn't let me give up on it, kept explaining that it would get better (it has), made sure I really focused on keeping in rhthym more than perfect chord ringing.

I've played guitar for almost 20 years and I never get laid.

I'm also hilariously fat and socially inept but that's beside the point.

@red321 dude, check out pawn shops and shit, they usually have some good second hand amps.  Could get a really good Peavy or Marshall for $100 used and they last forever.  Worse case is you have to clean the pots.

I used to have two really awesome old custom American Fenders, but I have short fingers and am not coordinated enough to play guitar well so I traded them for rent and drugs in 2002.

Priorities.

Looking back, they were probably pretty valuable.

edit: now that I think of it I also had an Ibanez bass and a bass amp.  Probably traded that for drugs too.
