Maybe a pitching change wasn't necessary. Not much faith in the starters in the post season to get outs after a runner reaches base.

It strikes me as the type of move you might make when you are down in the series and not up. If you have one shot with Verlander this series, you ought to use him in his most effective manner. 

You have to wonder if this move isn't looking more towards the ALCS, giving Verlander an extra days rest to start sooner in the series.

I like it. No one expects a starter to go 9 anymore, so why not bring your ace in for higher leverage innings? As a fan it's kinda cool to see the games come down to the best guys rather than the last man standing.
