Just got back from a 3 day camping trip at the East Fork, San Gabriel River.  Haven't camped up there in a while.  River was still screaming a bit.  Crossable, but if you are a little hesitant, better to stay home.  On the way out, the accessible river areas were packed.  Trails not so much.  Also, there is a supposed bear that wanders the parking lot.  3 legged, one eyed.  My buddies had a video and some pictures, so when he sends them to me I'll post them.

My buddies the Bighorn Sheep.  Haven't seen them in a few years.  They greeted me with a nice river crossing.

Frog visited me on my tent.

So Fleet Week.  The Carl Vinson was pretty amazing.  But the wait time.  Ugg.  Got there at 8 AM.  Gates opened at 9 AM.  Line tripled by the time 9 AM came around, and I would say half if not more were not able to tour the carrier.  It looked like anyone that got there after 8:30 were not able to do the tour.  So after waiting to get in, finally got in around 10:30, because their organization was pretty poor.  Then another line to board the bus, which took till about 11.  Then another line to get through secondary security at the Vinson which took till about 12:30.  Finished around 2.  Then another line to get back on the Bus to the main fleet week area.  Was too tired to do anything else after all that so went home.  Here are the pics I took.

Really cool. No idea there were Bighorns in that area.

Cucamonga peak down.  Still some snow on the ground.  But it's getting hot up there.  took 2 liters with me, which usually is enough, and ran out 2 miles from the parking lot.  Beautiful day though.

Yesterday.

2 weeks ago.  And to put it in prespective.  A stream that was running 2 weeks ago, was dry this week.

This is the furthest water source up top, and it was still running fairly well.

So one of the people in the hiking group wanted to do Ontario.  Well, all I can say is, it was one of the more eventful hikes I've ever done.  The hike part was hard, but we did it.  It's getting hot up there.  No more snow from covered in snow 21 days ago.

Remember those falls, completely gone now.

20240609_070339.jpg

Still overcast over the basin.

Some pretty flowers.

And the eventful part.  As we were coming down from Ontario Peak, we met a group at Kelty Camp.  Well, they told us that there was a naked guy hiking the trail, and if you tried talking with them, he would get agitated and start yelling at you.  We are just like ok, and continued hiking down.  We get to around 2 1/2 mile from the parking lot, in an area called the switchbacks, were there is a natural spring.  And there, sitting right next to the trail is a naked guy.  We quickly pass him, then soon after a police helicopter appears.  And they are blasting, if you see a naked person on the trail, point them out.  So we point him out, and they go to that area.  Nothing the chopper can really do, since there is no where to land.  They say something to him on the loudspeaker that we couldn't understand.  So we just keep heading down.  About 3 switchbacks later, there he is on the trail.  With the chopper following him.  Naked as the day he was born, hiking, holding his hiking boots in his hands that were up in the air like he was doing a surrender.  That's the last we saw of him.  Not sure where he went, or if he's still on the trail, or is camping somewhere.  I mean it was a hot day, he had no water, no nothing.  Unless he had his car keys where the sun don't shine, didn't have that either.  Oh, and the helicopter left in like 20 minutes.  And there was no one in the parking lot.  I guess they were there before, SB sheriff and forestry, but they were all probably fat and didn't want to go up to get him.

Fun adventure filled weekend this weekend at Baden Powell/Wrightwood.  Daytime temperatures was 85 in Wrightwood.  So it was hot hot hot.  Camped at Table Mountain, and it was packed.  A shit white family camped out on Saturday night, and the turd kids were up at 5:30 in the morning yelling up a storm.  Then the crap father decided he needed to chop wood at 6 am.

So here is where the peak got interesting.  While we were up there.  There was an explosion way off in the distance.  Might have been Edwards Air Force Base.  But whatever it was burned bright for a few minutes and smoked up.

Then way to the West, there was this.  Don't think it was the Post fire, as that started at 1:30, and I took this picture at 1.

And on Sunday, played Frisbee Golf at Sky High Frisbee Golf Course on the North Slope of Mt. High.  Beautiful course, that is like hiking.  First hole.

Hole 11.  You have to throw the frisbee between two trees.

Another old relic.  The counter balance is still just floating there.

Saw a snake on my walk the other day

I believe it's a gopher snake, but they look similar to a rattler

This morning about 4:30 I had an adult skunk walk out of the bushes about 8 feet in front of me. I froze and kept the light in his eyes as he looked at me. After a minute he went back in the bush and I moved to the other side of the path to avoid him

Out of all the animals I encounter I'm leary of the skunks. The rest don't bother me
