Lindsey Nelson?   Guessing that's the 1969 WS, as that game is definately at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore and Nelson was a Mets announcer at that time.

Ty Cobb..I'm reading a new book about him. 2014 Casey Award winner as best baseball book.

TY COBB..A Terrible Beauty, By Charles Leerhsen. Dispels much of the rhetoric that's been perpetrated about the man for so long. Very highly recommend. The author spent many, many, years researching it.

Cobb would re-grip as the situation and pitch dictated, but he always came to the plate with that split grip, and most of his hits came from that grip. Honus Wagner used it also, and he was pretty good at baseball too.

One of these guys was a fullback for the Pittsburgh franchise of the first National Football League (no connection to today's NFL), then became a baseball Hall of Famer.

One of the guys looks like Christy Mathewson, but I don't remember him ever playing football.

Humorous side note: LB State for the past two seasons had a pitcher by the name of Chris Mathewson.  He was drafted by the Dogs in the 19th round this past June.

Correct! Jim Bunning, US Senator, Hall of Famer, pitched perfect game in the NL, no-hitter in the AL, and struck out a ton of folks.

Yep. He was 18 when he first played for the Washington Senators, who later became the Minnesota Twins.
