Missed this thread until now, but recognized George Brunet right away.   I once got his autograph when I was an early teen, don't know whatever happened to it, and saw him pitch in person once, iirc.

Yeah Rick never lived up to the billing, however as AO mentioned he may have been a victim of a kidney illness that cost him a kidney. Anyway he was never the same after the surgery. Reichardt was a great all round college athlete and if I remember right he hit the first home run in Anaheim Stadium.

He should have been a star but it wasn't to be.

I’m gonna guess Christy Mathewson cause he was a 3 sport star and the timing is right (i.e. not Dave Winfield).

It was actually in two separate cities.
