Walsh struck out 15 batters in that game vs. Joss and allowed one run, but Addie pitched a perfecto. October 2, 1908.

Walsh is the last pitcher to win 40 games. His 1908 season was incredible: 40-15, 1.42 ERA, 0.860 WHIP, 464 IP.

Walsh and Joss are #1 and 2 all-time in ERA.

Yep, it's Mauch. His Minneapolis Millers lost the Junior World Series in 1959 to the Havana Sugar Kings, 4 games to 3. The following year he took up the task of managing the Phillies, and the rest is history.

Spalding is a good try, but he was about 20 years before this.

Hint: one of the four became a legendary manager.

I recognized John McGraw right away.    Guessing that two others are Wee Willie Keeler and Dan Brouthers?     I saw who the 4th is, but cheated and sneaked a peek.

The team they played for was an easy one.   Baltimore Orioles, NL version in 1894

They were known as "The Big Four" of the Oriole teams of the 1890's.

This left-hander pitched for 37 straight years in professional baseball, 15 of them in the majors for nine different teams.

6th best ERA in Angels' history. He pitched for them from 1964-69.
