LA to host 2028 Olympics

Looks like LA has agreed to a deal giving Paris 2024 Olympics and LA 2028 Olympics

Bummer.  I was hoping we would get the 2024 Olympics so that the Metro rail projects would get fast tracked.  11 years to plan.  Hopefully we get it right, and under budget.

Article states that it looks like LA received some additional concessions (without knowing what those concessions might be) to let Paris got first in 2024. Paris wanted to tie in to 100th anniversary of 1924 games.

I'm okay with this.    Paris hasn't hosted in 100 years (as of 2024).   L.A. hosted twice since then.   Four years isn't that big of a difference, plus L.A. received some concessions for doing so.

It's funny that LA got 1984 uncontested because everyone was tired to spending too much on the Olympics and they get 2028 uncontested for the same reason.

Olympics were stoked to have two legitimate cities express interest, they weren't going to let that opportunity go by. They were looking at a future where only autocratic states were considering bids. The 2022 winter bid was a disaster.

Will be interesting to see if LA can recreate the model that kickstarted the Olympics again. The 84 Olympics was seen as a model for how to host a financially viable and successful Olympics after the disasters running up to it like Montreal in 76.

Having cities and coalitions of smaller countries presenting financially sound bids is the easy part. Keeping the corruption out of the IOC and the corresponding temptation to fleece countries with venue kickbacks is the hard part.

The genius of Peter Ueberroth is what made the 84 games such a success. He's getting up there in age but maybe the organizers can tap his brain for some advice during the planning stages.
