Ha.  Say what you will, but I've been suggesting all along that they should dump their relievers for literally anything another team will offer.  The vast majority of the bullpen was picked up off of the scrap heap, and wasn't controllable past this loss of a season, anyway.

totally agree.  I know you've been there.  just giving you some shit.

2.23 ERA, 1.018 WHIP, 36.1 IP, 37 SO, zero HR, 4.63 SO/W

Any more questions?

A middle reliever doesn't strike me as very exciting. He was pitching well though and it was a one of handful of successful bargain bin pickups by Eppler with regards to the pen.

Hernandez has quietly turned in an excellent 2.23 ERA with 9.2 K/9, 2.0 BB/9 and a 47.3 percent ground-ball rate through 36 1/3 innings of work. He’s a free agent at season’s and is is earning an $850K base salary in 2017, so he’s owed an affordable $293K through season’s end.

The 20-year-old Madero has struggled through 49 1/3 innings between Rookie ball and Class-A this season, limping to a 5.69 ERA, albeit with much more encouraging marks of 8.3 K/9, 2.0 BB/9 and a 47.8 percent ground-ball rate.

I'm honestly a little annoyed we couldn't turn norris or petit for anything. they'd both be rent an arms, but petit is having a year that makes most of shield's years look pretty trashy, and norris is a mid level closer. both are gone at the end of the year, so there is no point to hanging on to them. yet, we couldn't even manage to get a couple more 20 year old POS starters out of them?

I wouldn't go that far.   Shields was pretty dominant from 2003-2007.

and yet in not one of those years did he come even close to petit on WHIP, and the only year he had a better era than petit has now was 2002. Shields probably has the edge on him with WAR (especially in 2003), but other than that, idk. I guess a better way of putting it is...petit this year looks like a slightly unusually good shields prime year. Given Petit's past, there's no way he keeps it up, but dang. Can't help but feel thats a missed opportunity of ours.
