Hill, Ryu and Wood are left-handed starters. And their performance so far says they are quality left-handed starters. There is little sentimental value to keeping Cowart's left-handed bat around for old times' sake.

He's a switch hitter isnt he?  Or did he permanently make the switch to the left?

Cowart is a switch hitter, with a higher average from the right side. Nice Try.

He answered a question on twitter saying Cowart wouldn't get any consideration at 2b when Escobar comes back because "they like Espinosa's defense and he's hitting a lot better lately"....Hey, he's up to .171, that's a lot better than .150, I guess....

Which doesn't make sense, because Espinosa's actually striking out more and walking less than he did in May. His K rate is the highest it's been all year. In fact 15 of the 21 point jump in his average can be attributed to one 3-hit game on June 8th. Since then he's basically just been hitting a few singles and striking out like crazy.

Unless they don't believe he can hit quality MLB pitching not sure there is anything to the handedness...   He's hit lefties better than RHBs this year in AAA  http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=592230#/splits/R/hitting/2017/MINORS   But that being said, he's been significantly better vs RHBs every other year.  Hopefully we get some official word on what they are thinking.

He's terrible offensively....Period...as bad as it get with a big league player...listened to the Yankee radio broadcast on MLB radio last week and the announcers were in disbelief that he and Valbuena were getting regular AB's.  I will give Espinosa this---he is really good defensively...really good...

He clearly doesn't understand the move -- many of us don't but we are all really hoping to hear some official comment about it to help us try to understand.  We can all take some guess as to what they are thinking but -- it's guesswork.

It's simply a horrible decision.  We're going into an NL park, he's a switch hitter, he's a plus defender that can also play 2nd base.  In other words he's versatile.  You know, the exact type of player you want in an NL game.  If all else fails you put him as a defensive replacement late in games because our worst defender plays his best position.  And what do we gain in return, Marte, who is passable at 3rd, and occasionally has a good stick.  So yes, I understand baseball, but this move is shit.

My guess is the Escobar is still our third baseman and the three LHP's were going to face for this series.

Cowart helped his cause yesterday ... he may be back up soon.

If we had Bellinger on our roster, he'd probably be getting some days off. He must be exhausted from hitting all those home runs.

You should put this in a thread that's critical of Sosh, not this thread which should be critical of Eppler.

What has he done for the Angels lately? Besides looking clueless half the time.

If you'd play every 3 or 4 days and see what you could do. YOU KEEP missing the point he isn't playing often enough to keep sharp. Also what has Marte done? What has Valbuena done? Come on get real.

Now that better ... but this is a huge series and no time for experimenting at second base.

Keep the pressure on...keep producing at SLC and he'll get another chance...he had an opportunity last year and he didn't do enough...he has to force the issue...
