Best defense is a good offense, Detroit spent pretty much the entire last 2 periods defending in their own zone...tough to get shots on goal when you're doing that.

Speaking of which, any idea of what top line D men are available via trade or FA?

From what I understand there are no real top line D men available in FA.  Best of whats available is:

Mark Streit- Islanders

Ladislav Smid- Oilers

Ron Hainsey- Jets

Ian White- Red Wings

Robyn Regehr- Sabres

 

Can't say I know too much about any of them other than White as I didn't watch too many eastern conference games till the playoffs.  I'm very interested to see what Murray does with our D this offseason.  I hope we re-sign Lovejoy on the cheap, I thought he was solid for us.  I haven't heard of any interest in bringing back Ludman (although I hear he prefers to stay in OC if possible).

 

I'm sad Bobby is likely to be traded but with the way he played this year I think the Ducks have little option but to move him.  Oh well, will give me a reason to finally get the 3rd jersey.

He was traded to the Kings this season and just signed a new two year contract to stay with LA.

Once Bobby is traded they should retire #9.

Former Duck, Andy Mcdonald officially retired today due to post concussion syndrome. Sad to see him retire so early. I would love for the Ducks to bring him on as a skating coach or something.

I want the playoffs to be over already so we can find out what the Ducks will do.

 

It may be blasphemy but I really hope Teemu retires.  I felt like he only showed up once every couple games.  I think Koivu may come back.  And I think Souray has an expiring contract too right?  They may not bring him back with Vetanen waiting in the wings.

 

I would imagine Maroon will be on the squad next season and possibly Holland as well.

I'm with you there in regards to Teemu, Nate. Love him, but its his time to go. We need a top 2nd line C and another big D man. I'm anxious to see where we go in the offseason.

The one guy that I thought was underrated was Steckel.  He isn't a scorer but he was nails in the face off circle and defensively, especially on PK.  He was also seemingly always in the right spot.  I am pretty sure he was a rental, wouldn't mind seeing him on the 4th line next season.

I could be wrong but I think Souray signed a 3 year deal last off-season.  If Teemu comesback I think it will be for 4th line minutes and power play specialist.  If he is okay with that role I definitely want him back.

Andy McDonald retired.  I can't believe it.  Way too soon.

 

And on the anniversary of when he won the cup.

 

He was huge for that cup run.  I wish he would get more recognition from people when they talk about that team.  Whenever analyst or just average internet guys talk about that team, they talk about Niedermayer, Pronger, Selanne, Giguere, and then give a nod to Pahlsson because he as well was a beast that year.  But Andy kind of gets left out of the convo.  Never in Ducks fans minds though.

 

I wish he would have been able to come back to the Ducks.

 

EDIT: I just edited, I was completely wrong about the order that they passed the cup.  It was Scott, then Rob, then Pronger, then Teemu, but then Teemu passed it to Marchant, then O'Donnell, then May, and then Jiggy and Andy.  But still, the sentiment stays the same.
