Pujols has been terrible

Pujols was hot just before the ASB. I looked it up today and he hit about .300 over about 55 ABs prior to this 0-21. It's a bad 5 games. He's had a lot of bad ABs and a few good ones where they've caught the balls.

hes slumping but it's not anything out of the range of a normal MLB player slump.

Yet.

And in the 103 ABs prior to that he hit .194 with an OPS of .545

If not for the absurd contract, this would likely be Pujols last year.

He would probably be DFA within a year.if he did not retire.

At his age, I don't think this can be passed off as a slump.

It is a natural and permanent decline for a player in their late thirties.

The last four years of his contract are wasted regardless of whether he is on the roster going forward or not, so it will be interesting to see how the Angels play this.

I am guessing he does not feel guilty and will therefore not donate his remaining salary to the Angels.

Pujs has never been a league average hitter, in terms of OPS and OPS+. This could be one of those off years. He might have a bounce back year next year, so you never know.

Albert's career avg has dropped 3.2 points this year from .3091 to .3059.

If nothing changes and he ends up hitting around .230 for the rest of the year ie he goes 46-200 the rest of the way, It will knock him down to .3044.

If he hits .230 next year with in 600 at bats, he'll end the season with 3095 hits and a career BA of .300048.  If he played 2 more seasons, he would have to hit .265 to maintain a career avg of .300.

Have a career avg of .300 might actually be important to him.  But that would mean essentially walking away after next season leaving 87 mil on the table.

But at the end of the day, he's have his 3000 hits, 600hrs and .300 avg.  He's probably pass griffey to end up 6th on the hr list and he probably passes Musial for RBI putting him 7th all time.  He's gonna pass Ripken for GIDP no matter what he does.

I can't imagine he's having fun right now.  I think he most likely expects to have a rebound year next year but if it doesn't happen, 2019 could be his exit tour.

There's really nothing left for him to accomplish.
