Pujols has been terrible

Recommended Posts

I think he wants 3000 hits more than 100 WAR.  Just a guess.

.300 career batting average  (even though we have all evolved "past" batting average) seems like that would matter.

I'm just noting that if he is at .301 at the end of 2018, with 636 homers. . .does he try to push out another year hoping for good health and 24 more homers in 2019 to get to 660, knowing he would lose that .300 career batting average?

Career numbers obviously come into play as you have discussed.

There is one number nobody is talking about and that is batting average.  His career average now is .307.

You have to believe he would want to stay over .300.  If he hits .240 the rest of this season (call it 300 more at bats) and 600 at bats next season, he would be sitting at .300 almost on the nose.

Ive been saying that for awhile. Micky mantle always said that was bis biggest regret. I dont see punols letting himself slip too far past .300 (but could be totally wrong).

But i think the reason he seems to be doing not much more than trying to go yard is hes chasing down a specific HR number...like maybe 5th all time. And thats where AO is right...the sooner he makes it there, the better...

He's lost 21 (!!!) points off of his career batting average since he got to the Angels.  Awful.

Here is how he would need to stay at .300 BA by the close of 2019 season.   Say he has 250 at bats the rest of 2017, 600 at bats in 2018, and 550 at bats in 2019, he would need to hit .255 from now until the close of 2019 season to still be at .300.

Regarding the other big category, career hits, he would need to pass Paul Molitor at 3,319 (416 to surpass him) to reach the top 10 all time.   He would need to play through the 2020 season to accomplish that.   Even then, there are two others also likely chasing Molitor's mark: Cabrera and Beltre.  Beltre (currently at 2,978) will get hit # 3,000 in about a month, and might play two seasons following 2017.   Cabrera is 34, and is currently already at 2,591 hits.  Cabrera may need only 4-5 additional seasons to surpass Molitor.

I think it's time for Sosh and Eppler to sit Pujols down and explain that he will be given a lot of days off and when he does play, he will be batting further down in the line-up.  The reasoning being that he needs to rest and heal up for next year.

This will show respect for Albert and if he really cares for the team, he will reluctantly agree.

Odds of this happening is slim to none.

Except he physically can't play the field anymore without having to take three days off for recovery.

Sounds like a solid plan

Today Gubi says in the 8th, if Albert hits a home run here his previous 14 at bats won't matter.

Pujols ended innings and rallies the first game that one more run before the bottom of the ninth would have won the game. So those fourteen at bats did matter a whole frigging lot and we shouldn't be talking about getting one lousy hit to erase the chalkboard.

One day Rojas is going to have to look him in the eye and tell him to shut the fuck up. Just quit talking to talk, shut your stupid pie hole until you have something real to say.

Wow.... Just an awful slash line .233/.280/.374 and just 14 home runs so far.

Designated Hitter? Aren't they designated to hit?

The last two months have been worse, BA around .210 and OPS of .590.

If this continues for the rest of the season, there is no way on earth we can survive four more years of him in the middle of the lineup. Hall of Fame or no Hall of Fame, something will have to be done.

Of all people....

There's a difference @CALZONE. This is a dedicated thread on Albert Pujols sucking. You spew the same message across all threads, including ones that have ZERO to do with Albert.

Let me remind you that I'm very much aware of that thank you. Oh and here's your updated DH stats.
