Man, this is incredibly ugly.

Only good thing is we are still in the game.  But yeah, ugly.

I have been focusing on Megna though.  He really looks good.  He really doesn't go fishing.  The way I see it, he expects his teammates to do their job.  If he's on left D, he stays on left D, and won't cross over to help out leading to the backdoor wide open.  He's not flashy, and a lot of times, it looks like he's just standing there.  But to me, he's disciplined.

Yea, it is hard to evaluate in this game, none of them can gain possession.  Beauch has probably been the most consistent at gaining possession, but the problem is he is not fast so he gets caught a lot.  Still, compared to Bieksa, he doesn't fuck up nearly as much.  Montour and Fowler both have been off though which is weird, normally when they get the puck they are so good.

Just like the Penguins, the Ducks are F-ed if their starting goalie goes down. Pittsburgh's backup Niemi is extremely bad & make Miller look like a Vezina candidate.

The penguins may have a deeper offense but their playing with a massive hangover after winning back to back championships.

Miller was a Vezina candidate a few years ago though.  We are on Berra, which is a few steps below Miller.  But he's keeping us in the game, so he is our Cy.

True. The 2009-10 Ryan Miller was elite with his .929 SV%. He had a .923% in 2013-14 but played only 40 games.

In between those seasons he's been around .915% but those teams in Buffalo in front of him were bad.

On the positive side, the next two games are against teams with a combined one win for the season. And, they cover the next 10 days. If we can get 2-3 points we'll still be in good shape.

We really need to keep close to that one point a game average until things settle down.

Berra was fine.  The rest of the team was awful.

Did we ever find out what was wrong with Gibson?

from Eric Stephens post game article.  http://www.ocregister.com/2017/10/13/injuries-penalties-cost-ducks-in-their-first-road-game/

Much of Bernier’s playing time with the Ducks came as a result of Gibson suffering a groin injury in the second half of last season. On Friday, Carlyle said Gibson got hurt on a shot from a teammate during their warm-up skate but told him that he could still make his start.

The first-period blitz from the Avalanche was too much to deal with. “And then it got to a point where it wasn’t safe,” Carlyle said. “He didn’t feel good. So he said he wasn’t good to go.”
