Future Batting Champion

Cheap shot.  Kendrick was nothing but a pure success as a homegrown prospect having a reliable and productive career as an Angel.  Any team would love to have a guy consistently hit .295, play defense, hit some homers, steal some bases, and drive in some runs.

Would you prefer he win a batting title one year or have the stable career he had?

Note: Kendrick delivered a batting average roughly 87% of the average batting title over his Angel career.  And he is mocked for that.

Imagine if the Angels had a big power bat coming up through the minors with people saying in consensus he legitimately could win a home run title. . . and then the guy was mocked for averaging 40 homers a year for 8 or 9 years.

40 homers a year would be 87% of the average home run title from 2008 to 2016.

Kendrick was basically as advertised just like a consistent 40 hr guy would be if people said he was potentially a future home run champ.

Howie was seriously underrated as an Angel. Sure, he never became the superstar he was hyped as. But he was dependable as hell. Good bat, glove, teammate.

Yes, he sucked with breaking pitches away.

His last three seasons here were disappointments.   That's part of the frustration.

His OPS+ the last 3 years were about 114. People kind of pointed the finger at him, but IMO is was more about the overall team. Howie was always kind of a punching bag here. But with pitching those last 3 years, the team wins, and we remember him and the other guys in a different light, i think.

It was joke.  Just restating what was said back then about him and his .367 batting avg in the minors.  I know (and prefer) what kind of consistant career Howie had.
