So Cowart clubs two doubles today, hitting .303

Went 3/4 out of the leadoff spot.

Question, why is Marte or Pennington still on this team?

Cowart's defense is better than both and he's getting on base at a great clip in AAA, and among leaders in the SB dept.

If we're ever going to find out if he's MLB quality or just a 4-A guy, this season would be the time. He needs consistent at bats to determine if he's an integral part of the team going forward or just minor league fill in depth.

Hasn't he now played enough games at 2B this season, to call him up to play both 2B and 3B?

Marte needs to go back to AAA and re-learn how to hit like he did a year ago.

He sure has..

Marte looks like a different hitter this year and Pennington just blows, especially defensively which is weird because that's why he's on our roster.

is espinosa injured? if he's not, then it's kind of weird that sosh won't let him hit his way out of this one. not complaining, mind you, just out of character for sosh to sit a struggling veteran.

If this message hasn't been delivered in no uncertain terms by management, then there's something very wrong.

While I completely agree with the sentiment you are basically saying the only way to steal a base or score a run is to beat the throw.  How many times has a throw beat Trout and yet he avoids the tag?  Well legs don't do what arms, elbows and hands do.

I agree.  Marte is contributing very little and over an extended period of time this year.  Cowart deserves a long look this year.  We know he's outstanding defensively.  If he can show that he can hit the curve, he's a quality, cost controlled option moving forward which provides us a long term option at third base.  He needs to given enough major league at bats to where he gets comfortable and confident.  This is a time to provide him that opportunity.  Offensively l, he can't be worse than Espinoza or Marte have been.

Pennington's defense has gone south some this season.

Pennington is a shortstop and second baseman. He fills in at third, but he is not strong there. On Monday, he retreated to field a hard bouncer and the runner barely beat it out. A charge and grab might have gotten the runner and cut off a rally that followed. He's playing third because the real corner infielders can't crack .180 with the bat. He's above .230.

I think Cowart is an aspiration born of desperation that is bound to be a disappointment at third or second, or anywhere else. His AAA hitting is a PCL mirage. If he gets a chance, I hope I'm wrong.

Can we make sure if he is stealing bases that he doesn't go in head first?

If they just have to slide head first, they need to wear one of those sliding gloves, I saw a player wearing last week. It would not allow the thumb or fingers to bend or even move. It might take some practice to hold the bag without sliding off though.

Cowart really hasn't shown that he absolutely has to be a major leaguer. He's shown that he has that capability, and he'll get his shot to stay in the majors either this year or next.

Neither has Fontana, Espinosa, Marte or Pennington.

They just lost 10 WAR to injury, does it really matter what collection of broken pieces they start every night?  Cowart at least has the illusion of potential still wafting off of him as opposed to the stiffs we have on the roster.  Stick him at 2B, bat him 9th, and see what he does.

Except Cowart really isn't a competent defensive 2B. He can handle that spot and shortstop in case of injury, but that's about it.
