Could Pujols prevent Trout from the Triple Crown

It's the same people.

Pujols doesn't just magically turn into an amazing hitter when there are runners in scoring position.

No, but he consciously turns into a different hitter.

He doesn't just try to pull the ball. When the bases are empty, he's trying to hit a HR and he is pull heavy. When runners are in scoring position he is more content to take a single to RF.

Any manager, coach, or player will tell you that hitting with runners in scoring position is a skill. Some players do it a lot better that others. Pujols is currently hitting over .400 with runners in scoring position.

Word of the day: Pressure

I wouldn't say any manager, but you don't think there are some that think certain players who are better in those situations than other players?

By the way, this isn't a great thing for Pujols, necessarily.

In his prime, he didn't have to give up power for average. I would be willing to bet he had the same approach no matter the situation back then, because he was a ridiculously good hitter. Now he's more limited so he has to choose whether to go for power or average, since he can't do both. Not as well anyway.

Okay, so given that he's wildly more successful with RISP than without, it's only logical to conclude he's far more concerned with the 3-digit number on that scoreboard in centerfield than the actual scoreboard that counts. They should make him a custom jersey that replaces the A-N-G-E-L-S with P-U-J-O-L-S.

This is dumb.

So he's 3 for 95 when he's trying to hit a bases empty home run. That certainly doesn't help the TEAM.

Trout is very talented but hasn't proven himself a champion.  His only playoff appearance was pathetically bad.

the entire team was bad in that series. don't cherry pick one player to lay this on.

This is why you never put all your eggs in one basket, and signing Trout to the largest contract in MLB history is a fool's errand.  Hamilton, Pujols, Fielder, Howard, etc etc etc.

A wise team will spread their payroll across many "good" players, and let the "superstars" go to teams that are more interested in big names than they are in championships.

You are Clod.
