Could Pujols prevent Trout from the Triple Crown

Recommended Posts

The sooner we quit caring about the traditional triple crown the better.  Trout/Pujols may help us in recognizing that RBI's are not an important stat in evaluating a hitter.  RBI has already robbed Trout of two MVPs.  If it happens again maybe the writers will start to figure out that you shouldn't grade down the best player in baseball over something out of his hands.

I'm willing to bet that most people here would be jumping for joy and would find the significance of a Trout triple crown much more important in Angels history than Pujols' 600 home run milestone.

Meanwhile when we talk about RBI's you can point to Josh Donaldson's MVP season when he had 135 at bats with RISP while Mike Trout only had 88 at bats with RISP. So yes teammates make a huge difference.

The triple crown is a huge accomplishment that not many have achieved. Mike Trout on the right team surrounded by the right table setting talent and in the right stadium would probably accomplish it more than once. But he knows that.

Maybe so, but they are quite important as a team stat. I mean that's how you win games. A lot of players are up with RISP but don't drive them in that often, especially on this Angel's team. I think it's a clutch stat. Getting a 2 out single with the bases empty doesn't necessarily mean much, but it's a big deal with 2 out and bases loaded.

Driving in runs is the whole point of the game...

Lol

In that sense there are probably a dozen players who could accomplish it more than once.

If Trout saw nothing but fastballs belt-high with the wind blowing to left center and with the walls moved in 20 feet he could hit 100 homeruns. Fuckin Pujols.

The triple crown is a historical MLB achievement that even Albert in his prime didn't accomplish. We shouldn't lesson it's value just because Trout hasn't done it. If he did accomplish it in an Angels uniform everyone in this place would have the biggest orgasm.

Another clod post.  Of course we would value the triple crown more than Albert hitting his 600th.  The right talent doesn't exist.  When he is the best in the game he will be pitched around, period.  And the notion that he somehow yearns to play in a more hitter friendly park, is you projecting and it's just dumb.  Especially considering you don't care for milestones.

Can you imagine a 40-year old Pujols still batting right behind Trout in the lineup?

I hope whoever is managing the team then will have enough sense to move him down a few spots.

More importantly hopefully whoever is the GM will give us players that deserve to hit behind Trout, more than Albert.  So far that isn't happening.

Well Mantle did win the triple crown in 1956 but I'm willing to bet that hitting .444 with RISP had a lot to do with it.

Why is the RBI overrated?

1. It has just as much to do with the guys in front of you getting on base.

2. You can record an out and still get an RBI. Grounding into a DP with the bases loaded and no outs, for example. Pretty much the worst outcome. +1 RBI.

3. Troll Daddy likes them

4. Getting at bats with runners on base is entirely random
