I've wondered on more than one occasion:  Why in the fuck did my mom serve us lima beans?  It only meant a meal ruined for me and my siblings, and a hassle with the 'you aren't leaving until they are finished" routine to them.

I grew up with Fava bean soup my grandfather used to make. Never got the recipe, never found a replacement. I used to go out into his garden and pick Fava bean and fresh peas off the vines. Ate a lot of raw peas and loved them that way. Fava beans often were sour so I preferred them cooked. 

Every time we had ham for dinner we knew tomorrow was split pea soup. Every so often we had a pot roast and leftovers were made into soup with various beans. 

Only recently I started incorporating black beans into my diet. I will make chili and mix 1:2 black beans to kidney.

i'm cool with peas and lima beans. not first go to and i don't keep cans of them in the house, but if it's one of those meet the parents for the first time and either comes out i can eat them with no problem.

Lima beans can be doctored with hot sauce and salt. Peas add a sweetness that never seems to belong in the dish
