There's something really special about this team

We're through the first week of the season, and the Angels are 5-2.
Offensively, they're slashing a combined .291/.352/.439/.791
They're first in the AL in runs, hits, RBI, and batting average, and second in SLG and OPS.

On the mound, they're sporting a 3.98 ERA (7th), a .217 BAA (5th), and a 1.08 WHIP (3rd in the AL).
In the AL, they're tied with the Yankees for fewest walks allowed, and tied for second for most strikeouts. |

Escobar is 5th in the AL in BA, and Simmons is 6th.
Espinosa and Trout tied for 4th in RBI.

Trout, Escobar, and Simmons are all sporting an OPS of 1.000 or higher.

That said, there's a brutal stretch ahead - 20 straight games against the Rangers, Royals, Astros, Blue Jays, with the Athletics in between, and no off days until May 1st. Big test ahead. If they can keep winning series until May, taking 2 out of 3, etc...they'll be in good shape.

If Espinosa is tied for 4th in RBIs, then so is Trout.

All these stats are great by the way. Hope this special Halos squad keeps finding wasys to get it done!

If Espinosa could make regular contact, he would lead both leagues in RBI's he's had so many chances.

No doubt. He does swing and miss on a lot of pitches right down the middle. Some cause for concern, but we didn't sign him for a high batting average. Just play great defense and hit some occasional bombs. 24 again would be nice!

He does have a great glove, and he is very fluid with Sommons.  I'm hoping he will heat up a little with the bat as he probably has put some extra pressure on himself being a local guy.

Richards has the best stuff by far and has the best chance to be the ace.  Shoe is the soul of the starting pitchers.  Richards is the nervous system.

The win today is the kind that special teams pull off.  It's almost the kind of win that helps to make them special.  Gives them momentum and confidence they wouldn't normally deserve.  A walk off hit by Cliff Pennington off of Diaz?

You could hear seattle's sphincter's tightening.  You could see and feel the meltdown coming.

Not only was it a building block for the halos, but a nut punch to one of our biggest rivals.

i don't disagree with any of that. i'm just saying if anybody on the angels deserves to be called the ace, then it's going to be shoemaker, because he's the only one that's kind of done it already. also, if richards becomes the ace of the staff this year, then it's going to revolutionize baseball and the future of ulnar injuries and i'm not saying that lightly.

Before this season for about the past 5 seasons it seemed like the Angels rarely if ever came back to win so late in the game.

Now that they've come back twice late in the game, only a week into the season, I think that's great sign as far as this teams unwillingness to "go through the motions."

Always a great day when the Halos win, good for them!
