$200 billion California budget deal rejects health care, tax breaks for undocumented

California's state budgets represent a seemingly unstoppable rise in government spending

Quote

Here’s how the budget breaks down: $138.6 billion for the general fund, the government’s main checking account; $57.1 billion for special funds, largely for safety net and transportation programs; and $3.9 billion for bond debt.

Choo choo funds.

Oh and all those schools wanting more money?

Quote

The largest spending category in the state budget is health and human services, currently eating up 32% of money from all funds. K-12 schools are the largest general fund drain, taking 41%.

And this doesn't even account for the money the UC and CSU schools are asking for.

But to put in perspective $200 billion.  IN 2017, the population of California is 39.54 million.  That means every man woman and child in this state has to contribute $5,050 each.

$5050 each to live here? Not a bad flippin' deal at all.

The cost jumps when you consider the unfunded pension liabilities:

http://www.pensiontracker.org/

In the next 6 years cities expect their pension costs to almost double in terms of what they cost as a % of their budget:

http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/the-state-worker/article198062129.html

The pensions set return goals that are out of line with what the fed (not as underfunded, go figure) sets and when they don't meet those goals the cities have to make up the difference.  Long term taxes will go up and people will see less of a return when more money has to go to meet pension obligations.  Ridiculous.

Why the F should I have to pay California 5k to live here? What does that get me?

Well you will never be without knowledge if you need to know if there are cancer causing materials in the general area.

With the way the libs like putting warning signs up,  I'm soon going to have to wear a sign over my ass saying it may cause cancer and harms the environment.

Likewise I could see people dealing with a darker morning to have some sun after work in the winter.

I'm still not sure sending kids out to the bus in the dark of night is going to fly in the mornings.

Well then stick with what we have.  But know that in places like the U.K., Canada, Northern Europe that kids do go to school in the morning in the dark in winter.  It’s a reality plenty of people deal with.

But we're talking Californians and their kids. Not exactly known for their ability to adapt and overcome. That's going to be amusing to watch.

don't know that there's any scientific evidence for it, but we notice at school that sickness increases after we 'fall back'. also anecdotal, driving on the freeways is more aggressive.

You live in Glendale so your view of this is a bit skewed.

This won't get any press, but its, well, it speaks for itself really.

https://www.imperialvalleynews.com/index.php/news/california-news/15283-governor-brown-announces-appointments-6-22-18.html

"Juan Pedro Gaffney, 80, of Sebastopol, has been appointed to the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. Gaffney has been a member of the California Alcoholic Beverage Control Appeals Board since 2017 and director at Coro Hispano de San Francisco since 1975. He was director of Hispanic liturgy at Mission Dolores from 1993 to 2008 and was the first artist-in-residence at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Gaffney was an associate professor of philosophy at St. Joseph's College and a lecturer at Saint Mary's College from 1972 to 1996. Gaffney is a vice president of the Instituto Pro Música de California. He earned a Master of Arts degree in music from Stanford University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $147,778. Gaffney is a Democrat."

Brown appointed an 80 year old, non-lawyer, music teacher, high school buddy to  be a Commissioner (Judge) on the Appeals level of the WCAB.  So when I go to trial and a party doesn't like the trial level decision, we appeal to the WCAB.  After that you can appeal to the California Court of Appeals.

So someone who doesn't know shit about shit will have people's lives in his hands.

Sounds like a lot of elected officials.
