there's a real interesting twist to all of this roseanne stuff this week. wanda sykes, who quit her job on the show just minutes/hours before abc pulled the plug on it, is on video talking about trump being an orangutan. so is jimmy kimmel (kimmel kept his job). so is bill mahrer (mahrer kept his job, too). curious as to why there's no backlash against them.

and let me go on record as saying that what roseanne did was stupid and terrible and she deserved to be fired for being an idiot. does that same standard, however, also apply to others in her profession?

I think it's because calling a white person an "orangutan" doesn't have obvious racial undertones, but calling an African-American an "ape" does have racial baggage.

especially considering the joke is geared more towards his excessive use of spray tan

Agreed. This is especially true when set against the background that is the long and storied history of racism against white people being expressed via comparison to primates.
