Sandy Alderson and the Mets' front office may have an inexpensive bullpen option for 2017 who is currently pitching lights out for a Venezuela winter ball club.

Jose Arredondo, a Dominican right-hander who was originally signed by the Angels in 2002, pitched four seasons in the majors, sandwiched around Tommy John surgery in 2010. The 32-year-old pitched two seasons for the Angels and two seasons for the Reds, but is now trying to make a comeback in las Grandes Ligas after bouncing around between the Dominican Winter League, the International League and Atlantic League the last four years. This past season, Arredondo pitched for the York Revolution of the Atlantic League.

"I want (major league scouts) to focus on the training I've done and how I'm trying to get back in major league form," Arredondo told the Daily News in Spanish from Venezuela, where he's currently pitching for the Bravos de Margarita. "I feel very confident that I can contribute to a team immediately. I just want the opportunity to get back and prove my abilities."

Former major league pitcher Stu Cliburn, who had a short career with the Angels, is the pitching coach for the Bravos, and he said scouts from various major league clubs, including the Mets, have been buzzing about Arredondo's performance with the Bravos this winter.

when did Arrendondo last pitch in MLB?  At one point he was effective for us, then got injured or something, perhaps released, traded away but dropped off the radar.

Erstad Grit: thanks for the response.

2012 ??? FOUR years lay off from MLB is a pretty long time........odds are long he makes it back..........and YES, he was the Halos CLOSER IN WAITING for a year or two, towards  the end of K-Rod's reign if I recall right.
