Torii Hunter Jr....career with #Angels

John Smith

Is he talented? He's already 21, with 2017 being his age 22 season (birthday in June), and hasn't played a minor league game. I suspect he'll be moved aggressively, maybe start in A ball with the hopes to reach A+ by season's end.

EDIT: from a cursory search, it sounds like he's very athletic and very fast. Maybe a future fourth outfielder?

Good luck to young Mr. Hunter. The Angels picked him in the 23rd round and he owns a nice tech degree from a decent university, so he has a fallback plan. He'll get a serious clue how far he can go as a baseball late-bloomer in Tempe. But Tebow is already the talk of the Mets' 2017 spring camp. Torii Jr. at least has a pedigree as well as a real degree.

Hunter is even more athletic than his dad, though not necessarily the innate baseball talent. He played sparingly at Notre Dame though this is because if his commitment to football. He did alright on the football field, held his own.

In terms of actual baseball talent, he was raised around the game and clubhouse, so he knows how to conduct himself which is a plus. He does has excellent speed. The rest, we'll find out.

So I'd be really excited if he was 19, or if he had played baseball the past couple years. But the fact that he's barely played since 2014 and is 21 makes me much more hesitant. That said, he should be intriguing to watch.

what's to be hesitant about? other than the name, he's a 23rd round draftee. it's a no lose situation. he'll get his opportunities and then we'll see.

he was a pretty good football player at the high school and college level........he did get knocked down pretty good causing a concussion about a year ago -- may had him re-thinking of the NFL was for him.

oh well, let's hope the Halos treat son better than they did father......

Torii Sr. -- to me -- just a great Halo, fantastic attitude, good team guy, spark-plug and performed well for us and had perhaps his best stat year (for us) his final season.

we should have re-signed him but decided to do something else............that was OK -- Halos said 'we didn't have the money' they let Torri sign as a F/A with Detroit where Torii had a great season and then another good season the year after that.

the thing that made the 'let Toriii go' thing just horrible was the 'we don't have the money for that position Halos' going out and signing Josh Hamilton to that ridiculous long term contract (that we are still on the hook for ) instead.   that was plain ridiculous.

it left a bad taste in Torri's mouth -- as it should have -- and many Halos fans (who previously didn't like but understood not re-signing Torii as a 'business decision' suddenly didn't understand it at all).....and this was before Hamilton's implosion which - quite frankly - was not exactly unforeseen at the time.  A total debacle.

I really wish people can understand that the Angels didn't not spend on Hunter because they were busting their budget to resign Grienke.  Once Grienke went to the Dogs Tori was already gone and we had the money to spend on Hamilton.  It's not hard to figure out and it's frustrating when the " we didn't have the money for hunter but we had it for Hamilton"
