This year Christmas Eve and the first night of Chanukah line up so no pork products at our house during the Christmas break. That works out well for me since that gives me an excuse to make a prime rib.

Carol does Thanksgiving and went crazy doing a turkey and a ham and it was only five of us. The ham goes pretty quick but the damn turkey just sits in the fridge. I had enough turkey sandwiches and even made a turkey chili and finally disposed of the last of the leftovers a couple days ago.

So Christmas eve is my domain and I get what I want, red meat. Mashed potatoes, some asparagus and other vegetables with Yorkshire pudding to fill out the meal. She can't complain about Yorkshire pudding because it follows the no leavening rule.

That covers the need for a bone on the table and then we do the traditional salty bitter herbs, matzo and such. I even put up with her eating pickled herring and gefilte fish as long as she is on the far end of the table.

yes, you can order ahead of time. Go to the website and you can order/pre-pay and set pick up date.

 

You could also go to Costco if you are a saddist.
