Can someone explain why Scioscia attaches an anchor to Trout at first base?

 

Last season seems like a mirage.

Scioscia is just trolling Dipoto. Sabermetricians prefer less stolen base attempts. While this is true for a team as a whole, your best base stealers should still be cut loose.

speed and power aren't mutually exclusive. if you have the ability to steal bases then you should do just that. there's a lot of value in base running.

How many steals will Trout have by the end of the season? If he continues to bat 2nd, I don't think he'll have more than 20. Everytime he takes off, Pujols fouls the pitch off. I would be curious to find out the highest number of steals a player has had while batting in front of Pujols in a season. Albert doesn't like people stealing his thunder.

Yeah pretty much. Even Langston has said something about this. 

 

It's one thing if Pujols is swinging at a pitch down the pipe when Trout is going, but for him to foul off a pitch he knows he can't do anything with when Trout has a good jump is just poor patience.

 

This whole team has that problem with the bats. They swing a lot. They foul off pitches that should be driven. The hit piddly grounders on pitches they should be fouling off. They don't wait for their pitch. It's just poor execution of fundamentals.

You just have to laugh and lower whatever high expectations most of us had.

They do nothing well. Nada.
