Taylor, let me ask you something.  Do you think that our public education system is healthy?  Do you think that sending more money into the system will be the way to fix whatever issues there are?

I think we need to pay teachers and administrators more. Do that, plus give them better benefits and bigger pensions and we should definitely see the needle move.

Well, I think the distribution of money is obviously an issue. Places that spend more per student get better, but still kinda underwhelming results. I think that it's really important where the money is spent.

I'm fairly certain that this is said in jest, but they should be paid well if they perform well.

I do believe the public school system is unhealthy, especially for poor and minority students. But I don't think someone like Betsy DeVos is going to be the savior of public education. In fact, I don't think she has anything to offer that will improve education in any way. But maybe she'll prove me wrong.

I keep hearing people say we should just get rid of the Department of Education. How would that improve U.S. schools? (I'm not trying to bait you; I'm legitimately curious).

I guess that is my point.  Nothing has been done to fix the issue over how many administrations?  Maybe it is time to try something new.

My big issue with her is how she's in the pockets of so many Republicans, which means she'll likely be acting based on their partisan interests instead of doing what's objectively best for the schools. But maybe that's typical for SoE's.

It would allow States to decide how they should teach their kids without the Federal government breathing down their necks.
