California legalizes marijuana

Recommended Posts

Per the voter pamphlet.  Smoking Marijuana:

Activities allowed under the measure:  smoking marijuana in a private home or at a business licensed for on site marijuana consumption

activities not allowed under the measure:  smoking marijuana while driving a car, in any public place (other than a business licenced for on site consumption), or where anywhere that smoking tobacco is prohibited.

So sounds like only at home or at a joint club is probably where it will be allowed.

couple things:

i found this basic and helpful: http://time.com/4565438/california-marijuana-faq-rules-prop-64/

i also just called a dispensary and you still need a card. the state has until january 1, 2018 to basically get their shit together and offer places business licenses for recreational use. some different articles seem to indicate politicians already have the wheels in motion with implementing regulation, licensing, and things may get here sooner.

looks like we'll be able to just smoke like cigarettes.....you see people on the street light up, seems it will be the same opposed to just something you do in your home hiding. almost like it's normal thing like cigarettes and alcohol.

From my understanding it will be like alcohol, in most places you can't drink in public, and in many places you can't smoke cigs in public anymore...which raises the question about Amsterdam-like bars...or with Nevada on the bandwagon...In Vegas where you CAN drink walking down the streets, what are they going to do there?

This all happens a couple of decades late for it to matter much to me, but it's still going to be interesting.

I have certain skills on the botanical end of this issue, and I predict that, just like wine, there will still be money to be made since there will always be a market for the finer things in life. After this all shakes out, I'm thinking I will be able to supplement my retirement, without the threat of G-men repelling into my garden from helicopters.

you still can. the rules haven't changed, 6 plants per person just like now with medical only. the key for growing on a massive scale is just having a "co-op" setup. when i grew 60+ plants i teamed with a dispensary and just used their patient list to be "legal"

I have no problem with 420 in general, but am interested on how the state will regulate it's use in public. Maybe I'm being too paranoid with this, but I don't want to be at a public place, be it the beach, a park, music venue with my kids and have to sit or walk through a cloud of purple kush smoke. Damn I must be getting old...

Maybe it's just me and my nose for smelling it because I stopped doing it years ago, but people already smoke at the beach, parks, and music venues when it's illegal, I'm not sure what would stop them from doing it now that it's legal. I mean there's not clouds upon clouds like those stupid vapes, but people have been pretty casual about where they have chosen to smoke weed for what seems like years now. Hell sometimes I even see people on the street smoking it out in the open.

Because really, who is going to rat on someone for smoking weed?

i saw the other states voting on it won as well.

The initiative passed here. I wasn't sure how it was going to go, because it was narrowly defeated the last time it was on the ballot. Clark County and the two adjacent counties voted for it, the rural counties against - which seems odd to me. If I lived in the middle of nowhere, I might want a little chemical escape now and thn.

Are casinos going to allow patrons to smoke?

As far as I know, there has been nothing from the casino industry about the implications of the passage of this question. There is also the issue of marijuana still being against federal law regardless of what states do, and the casinos might not want to poke the gorilla in Washington.

I can't believe the Feds still consider it a schedule 1 drug.

yeah, it's weird. ever since eric holder was attorney general they haven't really treated it like one.....granted i'm in a state that is extremely lenient about it and just passed it being normal.

i thought it was unique when it was a hot button topic that holder said they wouldn't prosecute and hit hard regarding marijuana, but they never changed it from a schedule 1 drug.

We talked about it briefing yesterday. A gew guys mentioned Colorado is saying thwir DUI accidents increased, and me and a few guys called bullshit on that.

My 4th call lf the day was some idiot lit as hell crashing into 2 parked cars...explained to us that weed is legal now....a few of my partners were happy to bring up the conversation in briefing to me

This is why we cant have nice things.

i imagine it's going to be an issue, but it's also been legal here and easy to obtain for 10 years now so you probably aren't going to deviate too much....maybe just hear it as an excuse more often.

but yeah, and this is going to sound weird, but i could operate a vehicle after alcohol way better than i could with weed. the last time i smoked was a long time ago and got beyond ripped and there's no way i could fathom getting behind the wheel.

by the way, do you dudes have a way to test that for shit like dui's with marijuana? they don't have a breathalyzer machine like they do with alcohol, do they?

^thats a problem i still have today

To answer, no there is no test in the field like a PAS device. Blood later, but thats after the arrest. What im not up on it (my own fault) is if i stop someone for say a burnt out light and i can tell they are high.

Per the vehicle code, thats an alcohol dui if they are over .08 BAC....but what is it for weed? I couldnt tell you because i dont get it.

We have guys who specialize in that and go to schools for it..i havent...i hand it to them and see what they think becausw im not an expert.

Now, if i see you driving shitty thats a different story (and different code). That one im comfortable with enforcing.

As for saying its been around for awhile, i agree. I dont buy into it leading to more duis....to a point. I think some idiots are going to assume its kosher to smoke and drive now that its legal. And ive been telling stoners for years to not do dumb shit, it keeps the anti-legal crowd with an argument.
