As much as I want robot umps to call balls and strikes, I would be happy enough to settle for 'not picking incompetent umpires to work in the postseason' as a middle ground solution.

7-0 is probably too close to do it (as much as the probability of losing it from here is extremely low). But if it were, say, 10-0 going into the bottom of the fifth then maybe that is the point you do it.
