We brought him in as a left reliever and he walked almost ever batter he faced. We cut him where he went to the Yankees and pitched 5 innings.

In 2015  he did pretty well in Independent ball and the minors when the Red Sox gave him a shot as a starter and pitched extremely well for the last 4 rotation starts of the season.

A's took a gamble that those 4 games were the real deal for Hill and signed him for a 1 year 6 million deal. He has been one of the best pitchers this year albeit with a lot of injuries. A's were able to receive a pretty nice haul from the Doyers for him in typical Beane fashion.

If healthy he could be a great #2 after Kershaw. Dodgers have some legit starting pitching health concerns.

Hill's success isn't really a fair criticism of the Angels since any team could have had him. It's more of a credit to the A's that they saw something and were right.

Wow, I have zero recollection of him even being with the Angels, and it was only 2 years ago.  I must be getting old...

Or maybe just want to forget about him.   He pitched in 2 games for the Angels gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 3 walks and failed to retire a single batter.

It surprises me the Rich Hill thing has flown so under the radar here. Yeah, he was very briefly ours. Not long after that he was pitching in Indy ball. He was sill there 13 months ago. Since then he's been in the top five pitchers in baseball. Pretty incredible, especially since his biggest adjustment has just been to throw his best pitch a lot more. But obviously we never could have known he was going to turn awesome, a decade since he was last relevant.

He's going to get a really nice payday this offseason.

Wait.. he was signed 6 different times by Boston? Is that some kind of a record?

Hadn't Hill just come off of the DL recently?    That could explain the pitch limit, but yeah it still sucks to come out 6 batters short of perfection.

Is this the first time ever that a pitcher was taken out while working on a perfect game for at least 7 innings?

He's had the ultimate emergence in 2016, 12-3 record and sub 2.00 ERA.

If Kershaw can get to 100% in 3+ weeks, he and Hill are a nice duo for the post-season, although they are lacking a solid RHP in the rotation.
